Lim athletes reap gold at tourney

The annual South African athletics championships for secondary schools and learners from special educational needs schools (LSEN) was hosted at the Peter Mokaba Stadium last week.

POLOKWANE – The annual South African athletics championships for secondary schools and learners from special educational needs schools (LSEN) was hosted at the Peter Mokaba Stadium last week.

The best athletes from various provinces across the country were represented, with Limpopo’s athletes receiving gold medals in various events.

Limpopo’s gold medallists were:

LSEN athletes:

• Khomotso Bapela – long jump for girls u/13 with a distance of 3,53 m and 1 500 m for girls u/13, which she finished in a time of 5:55.

• Ditiro Mphahlele – 1 500 m for girls u/14 in a time of 5:44.

• Tebatso Lekgothoane – 1 500 m for girls u/19 in a time of 5:33 seconds, 400 m for girls u/19 in a time of 64,63 seconds and 800 m for girls u/19, which she finished in a time of 2:34.

• Kgothalang Rakgoale – high jump for girls u/14 with a height of 1,35 m and long jump for girls u/14 with a distance of 4,16 m.

• Thulane Marutha – 100 m for boys u/13 in a time of 13,20 seconds and 200 m for boys u/13, which he finished in a time of 27,60 seconds.

• Wilhemina Keetse – 200 m for girls u/17 in a time of 28,48 seconds and 100 m for girls u/17 in a time of 13,78 seconds.

Secondary school athletes:

• Chris Moleya – high jump for boys u/17 with a height of 2,05 m.

• Phillemon Mabidilala – 400 m hurdles for boys u/17 in a time of 52,82 seconds.
