Triathlon win for locals
Stanford Lake College played host to the second annual Pan Solutions Wik Off Road Triathlon during March.
POLOKWANE – Stanford Lake College played host to the second annual Pan Solutions Wik Off Road Triathlon during March.
Close to 300 tri-athletes entered the event on the mountain.
The race was divided into two distances, with the longer course consisting of a 1 km swim, 26km mountain bike ride and 10 km trail run.
The shorter course comprised of a 5 km swim, 15km mountain bike ride and a 5 km trail run.
The results are as follows:
For the longer course:
Leon Roode took first place, Steven Wilson (a staff member and organiser of the event) took second place and Riaan Viljoen (from Stanford Lake College) took third place in the men’s races.
Melanie Melville took first place in the women’s races, Taryn Brent from Stanford Lake College took second place and Elana Malherbe took third place.
For the shorter course:
The mens race was dominated by Brian Gardener of Stanford Lake College, with Gawie Booysen in second place and Kuno Venter in third place.
The women’s race was won by Ashleigh Murray, second place went to Sherley Schriven and third place was taken by Sarah Venter.
“Congratulations to all tri-athletes who participated. It was a fantastic and enjoyable event for all involved.
“See you all next year,” said Rona McGaffen, the marketer of the school.
