POLOKWANE – Polokwane Oval racing club hosted their second round club championships at the club’s oval track at the Polokwane Show Grounds on Saturday, providing spectators with nail-biting racing action.
The hotrods class was an all Pienaar affair, with Allas beating André to the podium.
The roaring V8 engines of the super saloon class did not disappoint either, with Piet Venter winning ahead of Deon Voges. Pieter Venter won the 2,1-litre modified class, Roelof van Breda was second, while Rudolf Durant was in third place.
In the 1660 class, JJ Fourie drove competitively to take the overall class victory from rivals WF Weideman in second place and Sybrand Thysse in third place.
Willie Blignaut won the stockrods class. Second place went to Nico Grebe, while Willem Bouer ended in third place.
The Rookie class drivers did not disappoint with their racing skills. Dylon Bosch came in first, followed by Johnny Durant and Roeline van Breda.
Newly-elected Polokwane Oval promoter, Stephan Weideman, said the third round of the club championships was set to continue on Saturday May 3 at Polokwane Oval’s race track at the Polokwane Show Grounds.
He said the next big event for Polokwane Oval, where drivers from across South Africa were set to compete, was the annual Winter’s Trophy Race Meeting.
“Polokwane Oval aims to obtain enough sponsorship for the winner of each class to walk away with at least R10 000 in prize money,” said Weideman.
