Father and son team dominates monthly medal golf contest in the city

Lenny and Len Olley dominated the A-division of the Mike's Chicken monthly medal golf contest last Saturday at Polokwane Golf Club when Olley jr won with a 68 nett score and his dad taking up third place with a 74 nett score.

POLOKWANE – Lenny and Len Olley dominated the A-division of the Mike’s Chicken monthly medal golf contest last Saturday at Polokwane Golf Club when Olley jr won with a 68 nett score and his dad taking up third place with a 74 nett score.

In second place, sandwiched between the two Olley’s, Thabo Shingange finished with a respectable nett score of 74 on a count-out.

The B-division winner, with a nett score of 70, was Jan Nel, followed by second place winner, Piet Bronhorst, with a nett score of 74.

In the C-division Freek Schutte took first place with a nett score of 64, ahead of Piet Malherbe who racked up a nett score of 72.

The women’s A-division winner was Bev Weijters with a nett score of 76. Lynette Smith, with a nett score of 72, took first place in the women’s B-division.

Pepps Golf Day results:

Pepps Prepatory School hosted a golf competition on Thursday at the Polokwane Golf Club.

This four ball contest saw the team of Paul du Randt, Marinus Snyman, Gavin Mellville and Craig Rosendorff walk away with the gold after a win with a total of 88 points.

Other prize winners include Peet Swart for nearest to the pin on the fourth hole, Marinus Snyman, for nearest to the pin on the eighth hole, Brent Cloete, for nearest to the pin on the 11th hole and Fred van den Berg, for nearest to the pin on the 16th hole.

Alex van den Berg won the longest drive shot on the 18th hole and Hannes van Vuuren won the prize for spending the longest day on the course.

The winners of this betterball stableford competion that was played on April 2 were Ferdie Kirsten and Martin van Gend with a total of 47 points.

In second place, with 45 points, were Julius Mapatha and Sydney Shingange and third place went to the team of Charlie Smith and Piet Bronkhorst with 43 points.

Prizes for players nearest to the pin were awarded to Duncan Menzies (fourth hole), Jacky Papola (eighth hole), Danie Bouwer (11th hole) and Ferdie Kirsten (16th hole).

The players with two clubs in this match were Julius Mapatha, Goitsemang Motseki, Mo Ayob, Jack Pawson, Craig Hawken, Keith Badenhorst, Ig Swart, Charlie Smith, Piet Bronkhorst, Phill Mashakane, Ferdie Kirsten, Kobus Marnewick, Hein Viljoen, Jean Sadie and Corné Olivier.
