POLOKWANE – Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters in the city are getting ready for the Cage Rage 6 challenge which will take place at the Eksteen’s Martial Arts Rainbow Nation dojo on April 26.

The dojo is situated next to the Virgin Active Health Club alongside the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

A total of 24 fighters, two of whom are women, one a veteran and one a junior fighter, from Limpopo and Gauteng will battle it out at this cage-fighting MMA tournament.

Tournament promoter, Henri Eksteen says MMA fans can expect to see professional and extreme fights.

“The Cage Rage 6 Challenge is one of the best fighting tournaments and it will blow the fans away,” says Eksteen.

Categories to be fought in include amateur, triple threat, welterweight, under and over 80kg, and the extremely popular last man standing.

The last man standing division will be divided into two separate categories, namely under and over 80kg.

Fighters in these divisions will compete for a cash prize, as well as the South African World International Martial Art Association and Organisation championship belt.

According to Eksteen, the MMA challenge is hosted four times a year and aims to promote fighters in the province. He encouraged young people to join the sport as it builds self-confidence, concentration and physical health.

The challenge will start at 19:00 and tickets will be on sale at the door for R100 for adults and R50 for children under the age of 12 years. Refreshments will also be on sale.
