Athletes to put attire, race paces to the test
As part of preparations for the 2014 Comrades Marathon, Pietersburg Road Runners together with Run/Walk for Life and Polokwane Athletic Club will host a rehearsal run for athletes who will compete at the Comrades Marathon.
POLOKWANE – As part of preparations for the 2014 Comrades Marathon, Pietersburg Road Runners together with Run/Walk for Life and Polokwane Athletic Club will host a rehearsal run for athletes who will compete at the Comrades Marathon.
The rehearsal run will take place at the Soetdorings Country Club on Monday and 60 athletes are expected to take part.
The main aim of the rehearsal run is for runners to put their attire, supplements and race paces to the test before the Comrades. According to Colinda Potgieter from the Pietersburg Road Runners, athletes will run 8km towards the Byltsteel turn off, where they will turn right and follow the road for 21,5km to the turn-around point and then follow the same route back to Soetdorings Country Club.
“Each club will be responsible for three waterpoints on the route,” she explains.
She says the event is not an official race, but rather a well organised training run. It is planned that this event will be held annually to create an opportunity for runners to build team spirit and sportsmanship between the different clubs.
Potgieter adds that athletes will be participating of their own free will, and ambulances and traffic officials will not be available to keep an eye on the event.
Runners and supporters are requested to adhere to the traffic rules.
Runners should always run facing oncoming traffic. The rehearsal run is expected to start at 06:00 and runners are requested to pay R25 for water, snacks and Powerade.
