POLOKWANE – Polokwane’s riders performed well at the first Sabella Mountain Bike Challenge near Marble Hall on April 19.

In the men’s 35km race, local rider, Christo Hanekom took first place, completing the course in a time of 1:44:28.

Soretha Lubbe won first place in the women’s 35km race in a time of 1:58:57 seconds.

Roy Kirkpatric of Polokwane took 17th place overall in the 35km race.

In the 70km race, Slade Seale crossed the finish line after taking a “creative 55km route” after some of the riders got lost on the track. He completed this race in a time of 2:11:1.

Heinro Malan, a member of the Cycle Lab Polokwane race team took third place overall and completed the race in a time of 2:11:2.

Fanus Eksteen completed the 70km men’s race in a time of 2:35:45 seconds, taking fourth place.

Elbie Lourens of Polokwane Pedallers completed the race in a time of 3:32:45.

“This is a really great place to prepare for next year’s Epic.We will be back with a crowd next year,” said Pierre Loubser, a seven time Cape Epic rider.
