Tekkies on tar at Nguni road race
Close to 450 athletes took on three distances in the Nguni Grill Race presented by Polokwane Athletic Club last Saturday.
POLOKWANE – Close to 450 athletes took on three distances in the Nguni Grill Race presented by Polokwane Athletic Club last Saturday.
Runners from clubs such as Polokwane Athletic Club, Pietersburg Road Runners, Eskom Athletics Club, Run/Walk For Life, the South African National Defence Force and the Giyani Gallopers laced up their running shoes and ran the 5km, 10km and 28km races that started and ended at Nguni Grill.
Phuti Mohale of Pietersburg Road Runners took the top spot on the podium in the 28km race, winning the 28km men’s open category in a time of 1:38:57.
“It was a good race. I was running it at a Comrades Marathon pace,” Mohale explained after crossing the finish line.
René Giango of Polokwane Athletic Club took first place in the 28km women’s open ca-tegory.
Andries Nkoano of Run/Walk For Life surprised the organisers by finishing the 28km walk in a time of 3:05:40, faster than some of the runners.
Nkoano took first place in the 28km walkers’ category.
