Aiming for 9 hours in Comrades 2014

With only 17 days to go, Jaco Pieterse of Pietersburg Road Runners says he is looking forward to this year's Comrades Marathon, which he aims to finish in a time of 09:00:00.

POLOKWANE – With only 17 days to go, Jaco Pieterse of Pietersburg Road Runners says he is looking forward to this year’s Comrades Marathon, which he aims to finish in a time of 09:00:00.

The Comrades Marathon will be held in KwaZulu-Natal on June 1. This will be his fourth Comrades.

But Pieterse is not just a runner. He is also a first-class angler and has participated in the Cape Argus and the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Races.

In preparation for the Comrades, Pieterse was part of all hill training sessions, time trials and competed in the Om die Dam and Loskop Ultra Marathons, the Potties Marathon and the club’s training run.

He completed the Loskop race in an excellent time of 04:43:14, allowing him to start in batch D of the Comrades.

He says he is training hard and believes that he will return with a medal.

“I have been running up and down hills just to get ready for the Comrades. I normally run in the afternoons as I have a business to run during the day and a family to look after in the evening,” he says.

He says he has lost 11kg and hopes that this will bring better results.

Pieterse’s Comrades history:

• 2009: finished the race in a time of 10:55:06 and received a bronze medal.

• 2010: finished the race in a time of 09:24:00 and received a bronze medal.

• 2011: finished the race in a time of 10:53:19 and received a bronze medal.
