Athletes geared up for long run

POLOKWANE – Twenty athletes from Pietersburg Road Runners are preparing for the Comrades Marathon that will take place in fewer than nine days in KwaZulu-Natal in June 1.

Pietersburg Road Runners was founded in November 2008 and entered 12 athletes for the 2009 Comrades Marathon. All 12 runners finished the race in time.

In 2010 the club repeated this feat, and all 12 runners finished the race once again.

According to Colinda Potgieter, a member of Pietersburg Road Runners, even though the club believed results were more important than the number of entries, their goal was always to enter at least 20 runners before the 90th Comrades Marathon in 2015.

She said the members of the club were pleased that they managed to reach that goal.
