R10 000 prize for great win

POLOKWANE – About 1 500 athletes braved the cold weather on Saturday morning to take part in the annual Polokwane Mayoral Road Race at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Nedbank Athletics Club’s Joel Mmone ran an excellent race to win the 21,1km main race ahead of Nedbank Club runner David Manya, who finished second.

They finished ahead of Transnet Marathon Club contender, Vuyisile Tohoba.

Mmone collected R10 000 for his victory in the men’s open division of this 21,1km race. The runner-up took home R8 000 and the third place finisher received R6 000.

The top three athletes in the women’s open category for the 21,1km race also received the same amounts in prize money.

Lebo Phalula from Mr Price Athletics Club showed her heels to her rivals in the open category of the women’s 21,1km race. Nedbank Athletics Club runner, Linae Choka, finished second with Mamarallo Djoka from the Toyota Marathon Club completing the race in third place.

10km men’s race results:

1. Kgosi Tsosane.

2. Precious Lesiba.

3. Lungile Gongoa.

10km women’s race results:

1. Rutendo Nyahora.

2. Lebogang Phalula.

3. Faithy Nyasango.
