Athletes show mettle in race
More than 500 athletes participated in the Run/Walk For Life road race on Saturday.
POLOKWANE – More than 500 athletes participated in the Run/Walk For Life road race on Saturday.
The race started at 07:00 in Schoeman Street in front of Aida Properties, who were the main sponsor of the event.
The athletes were divided into two groups; walkers and runners.
There were two categories for the walkers, 10km and 15km, while the runners had three ca-tegories, 5km, 10km and 15km.
Kobie Marais from Run/Walk For Life said it was the third year that the road race took place, and he thanked everyone who participated.
“There were 581 athletes who participated in the road race. Run/Walk For Life would like to thank all our sponsors: Aida Properties, who sponsored the medals, as well as Henstock Van den Heever, De Bruyn Oberholzer, Niland Pretorius, Trappers Trading, Standard Bank and Betterbond, who sponsored all the prizes.
“The water points were sponsored by Sportsmans Warehouse, Just Juice, Henstock van den Heever and Aida Properties.
“We would also like to thank Coca-Cola and Viljoen Beverages for the colddrinks and water at the water points, Luandré Jacobs for the music and Matsobane Ambulance Services.
“A special thanks to all the residents around Aida Properties for their patience, as well as everyone who came to support the athletes,” Marais said.
