Triumphant at golf contests
It was an eventful week at the Polokwane Golf Club, with the Northern Media Group Challenge taking place last Wednesday and teams from Polokwane taking on Zimbabwe's golfers on Saturday.
POLOKWANE – It was an eventful week at the Polokwane Golf Club, with the Northern Media Group Challenge taking place last Wednesday and teams from Polokwane taking on Zimbabwe’s golfers on Saturday.
Polokwane’s players overwhelmed the golfers from Bulawayo and secured a 11-2 win.
About 110 golfers teed off for the day’s Bidvest Betterball Stableford, with Khalid Tayob and Dudley Venner taking first place with 51 points.
Venner and Tayob also won the nearest to the pin competition on the fourth and 11th holes respectively. Venner also won the jackpot on holes 3, 4, 6 and 12, which was drawn by Craig Hawken, and he took home more than R12 000 in prize money.
Wian Marx and Hawken took second place with 46 points, while Ameer Bava and Mohammed Essa came third with 45 points.
Mario dos Santos and Keith Hoare were fourth with 44 points.
Seventy-five golfers competed in the Northern Media Group Challenge’s individual stableford last Wednesday.
Attie Buitendag took the top spot with 43 points, followed by Keith Badenhorst in second place with 42 points.
Zach Chuenyane took third place on a count-in on 38 points.
Wimpie Knoesen and Johan Jacobs won the nearest to the pin on holes 8 and 14, respectively.
The club announced that from now on bookings are essential for Sundays.
Golfers can look forward to the Mike’s Chicken Monthly Medal on Saturday and the Limpopo Ladies Open on June 14 and 15.
