Victory runs in the family

The Potgieters family collectively won 63 Comrades Marathon medals over the years.

A family that runs together, stays together, and the Potgieter family does just that.

The Potgieters collectively won 63 Comrades Marathon medals over the years.

This year family members Co-linda Potgieter, Johan van der Merwe, Erika Bantjies, Martinique Potgieter and Amelia Haupt took part in the Comrades, where they hoped to return with at least two silver medals between the five of them.

However, Martinique was the only one who won a silver medal, finishing the women’s race in ninth place.

Colinda said it felt good to run as a family. “I believe that the bond we have will grow stronger.

“The feeling of running together as a family is good and I think that is what keeps us going,” she said.

She said the Potgieter family had great love and passion for running, and they hoped to win more Comrades medals in the future.
