Richards still number 1

The Limpopo Ladies Open golf challenge took place at the Polokwane Golf Club this weekend.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Ladies Open golf challenge took place at the Polokwane Golf Club this weekend.

The win came down to the last hole, with Monja Richards, the defending champion, and Lara Weinstein, the winner of the Limpopo Ladies Open in 2012, battling it out.

“It was close and came down to the very last putt,” said Richards, “I took two shots and Lara needed three.”

The golfers faced a challenging two days on the course, with crosswinds getting the better of most of the ladies. Weinstein was ahead after the first round on Saturday on 74 (+2) with birdies on the second, third and ninth holes.

Richards was two shots behind on 76.

Richards closed the gap in round two with a steady 76, followed by Weinstein on 77.

In the final round on Sunday, Richards coined a birdie on the 13th hole and came through even with the strong wind and completed the course on 78, bringing her total to 230 to win the open.

Weinstein took second place just one shot behind Richards, despite a triple bogey on the ninth hole.
