POLOKWANE – Dylan Naidoo of Central Gauteng triumphed in the Nomads South African Boys u/17 Stroke Play Championships at the Polokwane Golf Club on Thursday. The tournament started last Monday and ended on Thursday.
Naidoo held off a spirited charge from Boland’s Herman Loubser, the Nomads South African Boys u/15 champion, to claim a one stroke victory.
Naidoo, who led the pack in round two and three, secured a win in the last round with two birdies and 16 pars added up to a two-under-par and a one stroke victory on five under 211.
Loubser put up a courageous fight on the last day of the tournament, but three drops in the last five holes derailed his chances and he signed for a 68 to finish second, two strokes clear of Zimbabwean Kieran Vincent, who closed with a 72.
“I’m really proud that I’ve come through the week without a double bogey. I didn’t get into trouble much, but when I did, I just focussed on getting to the green with the least amount of shots,” said Naidoo.
Limpopo’s Gerhard Pepler ended the championships in a fourway tie in 64th position. Jonty Darvell, also from Limpopo, finished in 116th place.
