Limpopo women’s softball team are 2nd in national tournament

Ekurhuleni Boys softball team and Tshwane Ladies softball team were crowned winners of the 2014 u/19 national softball championships that took place at the Polokwane Cricket Club from July 2 to 5.

POLOKWANE – Ekurhuleni Boys softball team and Tshwane Ladies softball team were crowned winners of the 2014 u/19 national softball championships that took place at the Polokwane Cricket Club from July 2 to 5.

Ekurhuleni won after beating KwaZulu-Natal 21-18 in the grand finale, while Tshwane beat Limpopo Ladies 14-8. Limpopo came in second place and received silver medals.

Three players from the Limpopo team were selected to be part of the national softball team which will participate in the world championships.

The players who were selected are pitcher, Rosina Rachidi, central fielder, Mathapelo Komape and utility, Immaculate Komape.

Rachidi also won an award for being the best pitcher of the tournament in the women’s category.

Four men’s and women’s team played in the round robin. In the men’s category, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Ekurhuleni and Western Cape played in the finals. KwaZulu-Natal beat Limpopo 13-10, while Ekurhuleni beat Western Cape 15-5.

In the women’s category, Tshwane beat Ekurhuleni 12-6, while Limpopo won 9-8 against Western Cape. In the grand finale, Ekurhuleni men’s team won 21-18 against KwaZulu-Natal, while Tshwane Ladies won 14-8 against Limpopo.
