Photo flies Limpopo’s flag high at national marathon tourney

Rufus Photo of Pietersburg Road Runners Club took part in the 42,2km National Marathon Championships, which was held in Cape Town last Friday.

POLOKWANE – Rufus Photo of Pietersburg Road Runners Club took part in the 42,2km National Marathon Championships, which was held in Cape Town last Friday.

Martinique Potgieter of Pietersburg Road Runners was also nominated to take part in the championships, but could not attend as she is still recovering from flu.

She was, however, replaced by Jane Mudau of Nedbank Athletic Club.

Photo qualified for the championships with his record time of 2:30:02 during the Kumba Marekele Marathon, which was held in Thabazimbi on March 1.

Colinda Potgieter, Pietersburg Road Runners secretary said Photo was expected to do well in the championships.

“Photo is very committed and hard working and we all believe he will do well and come home with a reward. He has been training hard for the championships and I believe his hard work will reap him better rewards,” said Potgieter. She added that the club had already started preparing for 2015 Comrades Marathon and Photo was part of the preparations.

Photo finished in fifth place at this year’s Comrades Marathon.
