Mopani teams off to SA’s

Two rugby teams from the Mopani district will represent Limpopo during the national schools rugby championships

POLOKWANE – Two rugby teams from the Mopani district will represent Limpopo during the national schools rugby championships, which will be held in Pretoria in December.

These teams claimed a spot in the nationals after winning the provincial rugby championship, which was held at the Polokwane rugby field last Thursday.

Mopani women’s rugby team beat Capricorn 36-10 in the finals, while Mopani men’s team beat Capricorn 40-17.

The referee, Ignitious Semenya, said Mopani teams attacked more and that is why they won most of their matches.

“Communities and schools are keen to take the sport of rugby to the next level. Rural areas take the sport seriously these days, and I believe we will have best rugby players in the future,” said Semenya.

He said he was positive that Mopani would represent the province well in the national championships.
