Clubs welcome gift of soccer balls

MORE than 200 durable soccer balls were distributed to various soccer clubs in Limpopo at an event held at the Mogalakwena Football for Hope Centre in Mahwelereng

MOKOPANE – MORE than 200 durable soccer balls were distributed to various soccer clubs in Limpopo at an event held at the Mogalakwena Football for Hope Centre in Mahwelereng on October 30.

The South African Red Cross Society (Limpopo) and the Mogalakwena Football for Hope Centre project in partnership with the department of sport, arts and culture handed over the balls.

The durable soccer balls are made of molecularly altered elastomer, which does not need a pump or inflation, it never deflates and it has no air bladder. Each soccer ball cost R429 excluding shipping costs to South Africa.

The soccer balls are a donation from One World Football Movement from the UK, which aims to contribute towards football skills development that will eventually benefit schools, youth clubs and furthermore reduce social ills in communities.

Communities in Limpopo will benefit a great deal out of the donations.

The soccer balls are made for rural and tough surfaces. Limpopo with limited proper grounds and facilities will benefit as the soccer balls fit very well with the living conditions.

The project is directed at addressing social ills that communities are faced with, especially young people, who are faced with drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, peer pressure and aids. The South African Red Cross Society (Limpopo), is using football as a vehicle to fight youth ills and empower young people.
