Beauty now part of Segolela fest
After incorporating netball in last year's instalment of the Tlou Segolela Festive Season Tournament the organisers of the event have confirmed that they have added a beauty pageant to the 2014 edition
MOLETJIE – After incorporating netball in last year’s instalment of the Tlou Segolela Festive Season Tournament, the organisers of the event have confirmed that they have added a beauty pageant to the 2014 edition of this showpiece.
The chief operations officer of Tlou Segolela Sports Development, Mpho Moloto, who organises the tournament, says Limpopo’s beauties, especially those from Moletjie and surrounding areas will have the opportunity to show their talent as they vie for the coveted title, which will carry a R20 000 price tag.
Moloto says the idea to include a beauty pageant was to create a platform for aspirant models to show the world what they have to offer and to open doors for them.
“The pageant will be held at Miami Lodge on December 16 and we are hopeful that the event will kick off this year’s activity with aplomb”, says Moloto.
The soccer and netball tournaments will be officially launched on December 19. The u/15 boys will battle for top honours from December 20 to 21, while 32 senior soccer teams will compete between December 24 and 31 to win the R80 000 prize.
This year will also see 12 netball teams compete for R12 000 prize money.
Moloto says they have been bombarded with applications from clubs outside the province, but they have to be careful before allowing them to register.
“Last year we had teams from Tembisa in Gauteng and it was great, but this year we are scrutinizing every participating team. We are doing this because teams are formed in November only to participate in the tournament, win the money and misuse it. Our aim is to develop sports and we need to empower clubs, not greedy individuals,” adds Moloto.
The Tlou Segolela Festive Season Tournament is the brainchild of Orlando Pirates midfielder Tlou “Gautrain” Segolela.
The Moletjie-born player says the initiative is his way of giving back to the community, which gave him so much. Moloto says the names of the teams that will take part in this year’s spectacle will be announced soon.
