Series serves up volleyball action
Some of the country's top beach volleyball stars came out to play in the city in the Flying Fish Beach Volleyball Series, which was held at Mall of the North this past weekend.
POLOKWANE – Some of the country’s top beach volleyball stars came out to play in the city in the Flying Fish Beach Volleyball Series, which was held at Mall of the North this past weekend.
A portion of the mall parking was transformed into a beach.
The tournament delivered top quality action, especially the semi-final and final play-offs.
Men’s results:
Leo Williams and Grant Goldschmidt claimed the Polokwane leg of the Flying Fish Beach Volleyball Series title on Sunday. They previously won in Johannesburg and Kimberley too and beat rivals, Colin Pocock and Casey Augoustides.
Williams and Goldschmidt beat Grant Viljoen and Sven Mollgaard spectacularly in the semi-finals to go through to the final match. The Williams, Goldschmidt duo have not only increased their lead in the overall series standings, but proved to be almost unstoppable in their quest to win the overall series title.
Women’s results:
The women’s category saw Judith Augoustides and Nienke Veerbeek claimed their first Flying Fish Beach Volleyball Series title since forming their partnership at the Kimberley leg, where they finished third in their first outing together.
They faced Sheana Abrahams and Vitalina Nel in the final.
Augoustides and Veerbeek showed prowess and gelled well to beat their opponents by two sets to none, claiming their first series title.
The next leg of this series will take place in Bloemfontein from December 5 to 7.
