POLOKWANE – The finals of the Polokwane Municipality Mayor’s Football and Netball Cup Tournament will take place at the Seshego Stadium on Saturday.

The top four teams in each event will battle it out from 09:00 and spectators can expect an action packed day of sport.

“The 2013 tournament attracted scouts who were looking for talent, a trend we hope will continue even during the 2014 edition in order to give youngsters a chance to play at a professional level,” municipality spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene, said.

“This a programme put in place to develop and promote continuous participation in organised sport, as well as to ensure Polokwane remains the sporting hub of Limpopo. The promotion of sport is also consistent with smart living, which is one of the Polokwane 2030 smart city vision pillars.”

The overall winner in each sporting code will walk away with R50 000, while second and third place winners will receive R20 000 and R15 000 respectively.

The fourth place team wins R10 000.

The top four teams in each cluster will receive playing kit and R1 000, with each participating team receiving two balls and a whistle. Best players in different positions per code will also receive prizes.

In order to ensure expert technical officiating and operations, the u/19 tournament is organised in partnership with the South African Football Association, affiliated Polokwane Local Football Association and Netball South Africa.
