City FC’s Papic reaps rewards

POLOKWANE – IT took Polokwane City FC 12 matches before they could win a match at home, but the club has now registered back-to-back victories on home soil.

The feat moved the club into the top eight brackets for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for the first time since their promotion to the league.

Last Wednesday, Polokwane City FC broke their spell of bad luck when they got the better of Platinum Stars for the first time ever with goals from Maxwell Molala and Cole Alexander ensuring a 2-1 victory for Rise and Shine.

On Saturday evening, Kosta Papic’s team was at it again when they came from a goal down to thrash Chippa United 3-1, with Molala continuing in top form.

Rendani Ndou scored his first goal for the club, while Roggert Nyundu marked his return from a long lay-off with a goal from the penalty spot.

With the club extending their unbeaten run to six matches and having won the R1,5 million 2014/15 PSL Q-Innovation quarter two prize money with a game to spare, Papic said they were still on a mission to avoid relegation.

“Our aim is to fight relegation. The players fight for every point because we cannot afford to relax. We are not thinking about top eight and we do not care about Q-Innovation. If we win it is alright, but the players will keep on fighting to win matches so that we find ourselves as far from the relegation zone as possible,” said Papic.

In their last six matches, City FC beat Bidvest Wits 2-0, walloped Free State Stars 5-2, edged Mpumalanga Black Aces 2-1, drew 0-0 with Kaizer Chiefs, beat Platinum Stars 2-1 and demolished Chippa United 3-1.

City FC’s striker Puleng Tlolane is now the league’s top goal scorer with seven goals to his name.

Their next league match will be a trip to Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday for a date with Supersport United.
