Mashakane wins Review 2014 title
Phil Mashakane was crowned the overall winner of the 2014 Review Challenge after the final round was played at the Polokwane Golf Club on November 26.
POLOKWANE – Phil Mashakane was crowned the overall winner of the 2014 Review Challenge after the final round was played at the Polokwane Golf Club on November 26.
Mashakane competed in all 11 of the challenge’s golf days, which were held monthly. He scored 287 points in total. The eight best scores were used towards each golfer’s final score. Riaan Piek scored 283 points to take second place in the overall standings of the challenge. He competed in 10 of the golf days, missing only the first competition that took place on January 29.
In the November competition, 85 players took on the last Review Challenge individual stableford competition.
Jan Geldeman and Raoul van Zyl won prizes for winning the nearest to the pin competitions on holes four and 11 respectively. Thomas Pretorius took first place in the competition with 44 points, followed by Morné Myburgh with 40 points on a count-in and Thys de Kock with 40 points on a count-out. In the previous edition of Review, Pretorius was incorrectly identified as De Kock in a caption. Review would like to apologise for inconvenience caused.
Jaco Calitz took fourth place with 39 points, followed by Malebane Pataki with 38 points in the fifth position.
Pieter Meiring, sales manager of Northern Media Group, thanked all the golfers for their support of the Review Challenge and congratulated the winners. “I am proud to announce that the Review Challenge that has been running for two years will take place again next year,” said Meiring.
The Review Challenge will kick off on January 28 next year.
