Mopani u/17 teams excel at club development games

MOPANI district’s u/17 sports teams excelled at the recent provincial club development games at the University of Limpopo.

The teams won gold medals in boys’ and girls’ soccer, girls’ rugby and boys’ and girls’ volleyball items. They returned with two silver medals for boys’ softball and cricket and two bronze medals for girls’ basketball and netball. The teams came fourth and fifth respectively in boys’ rugby and basketball.

In the boys’ soccer division, the Mopani team drew 1-1 with Sekhukhune and went on to beat Waterberg 2-1.

On the second day, this Mopani team thrashed Vhembe 5-1 and proceeded to overcome the host district, Capricorn 2-1 to clinch the winner’s title with 10 points gathered from four games.

In girls’ soccer, Mopani crushed Sekhukhune 5-0 and went on to trounce Waterberg 7-1 on the first day. On the second day, this Mopani team produced a sterling performance to demolish Vhembe 14-0 and continued their good run when they defeated the host team Capricorn 8-0 to become the overall champions with 12 points accumulated from four games.
