Tlou Segolela tournament hit by allegations of greed and lies

POLOKWANE – Social media was abuzz last week as residents of Moletjie and other soccer fans alleged that the Tlou Segolela annual festive season tournament was not held to give back to the community but rather to steal from it.
These allegations became a hot topic and people posted negative feedback on social media regarding the tournament.
Residents complained about the affiliation- and entrance fees, questioning why they had to pay these fees when the tournament was a sponsored event.
Others complained about the mess that was left behind after the tournament and said Segolela should hire people to clean up afterwards.
People also complained that there were teams from Gauteng who participated when the tournament was supposed to be for Moletjie teams only.
Mpho Moloto, tournament coordinator, said the people who complained about the tournament were from eliminated teams.
“In 2012 we had a soccer team from Pretoria and in 2013 a netball team from Tembisa and people did not complain, but now they complain because they were beaten by a soccer team from North West.
“I don’t see why people should complain about the R5 entrance fee because it is so little,” he said.
He added that the organisers also wished that the tournament could be free of charge, saying this could only be achieved if they could manage to secure larger sponsors.
Some of the comments made on social media were as follows and are quoted verbatim:
• Kagiso Sabelo Britney: “its great to see dt tssd has secured a number of sponsors, bt wts da role of dis sponsors cos da affiliation of dis tournament is very exuberant hence der r sponsors. sum teams are being precluded to part take in dis competition R1 650 is too much whereas da tournament is organised wif the intention of giving bck to the community, I bet cum 2016 da affiliation wil be R2 000 nd as of why da vendors has to pay R200 for dem to be permitted to sell in da tournament it really puzzels me. da co-ordinators of dis tournament are letting tlou down coz dis has nw turned into business nd steal from da sym ppl dt it ws meant to give bck to dem…nd teams at punch masenamela’s tournament dey dnt affiliate dy jst provide a letter from tribal authority for dem to participate nd dts wt we call giving back to community. if its a tournament let it be so nd stop lying to da masses in da name of giving bck to community nd doing it for charity (sic).”
• Mpho Lucky: “kagiso ur right my Bra,this thing yah bhorha nou its like a business scam,n who r this little boys who make us pay n pay 4 the cooler boxes by the gate (sic).”
• BM Mpyana: “Thanks for the truth Kagiso Sabelo Britney, they are letting Tlou down…even the guys who collect money at the gate they are letting tlou down (sic).”
