Runner gives young athletes a leg up

Phuti Mohale says that he will visit schools in Moletjie and surrounding areas to recruit athletes.

POLOKWANE – Phuti Mohale of Pietersburg Road Runners says he has already started with preparations for the 2016 Comrades Marathon.

This year’s race will be held on May 31, and it will be Mohale’s third attempt at the marathon.

“I have started to prepare for the Comrades and I am sure I will do my best this year. I made a few mistakes in the last two marathons, but I look forward to rectify them and to cross the finish line in top form in my next race,” says Mohale.

He says he aims to break the Loskop Ultra Marathon record.

Mohale adds that he will visit schools in Moletjie and surrounding areas to recruit athletes.

“I need athletes who are in primary and secondary school so that I can start preparing them at an early age. Older people are also welcome, but I want people who are keen to go the extra mile.

“I will meet with school principals to ask permission so that we can use the schools’ sports grounds,” he says.

He urges teachers and parents to encourage young people to take part in sport.

Those who are interested in athletics can contact Mohale at 071 616 9350.
