Vhembe FET scores 1-0

THE Vhembe FET College Football Club has revived their hopes of playing in the ABC Motsepe League next season.

LIMPOPO – THE Vhembe FET College Football Club has revived their hopes of finding themselves playing in the ABC Motsepe League next season after they fought hard to beat Maranzhe Hungry Lions 1-0 during a SAB Castle League match at Makwarela Stadium on Saturday.

Mulweli Malada gave the home side the lead with a headed goal in the first half, and despite creating numerous goal scoring opportunities in the closing stages of the match, Hungry Lions lacked the killer instinct and were made to lick their wounds when the referee blew the final whistle.

Vhembe FET College head coach, Tshilidzi Budeli, admitted that the team did not have the best of matches, but said he would rather have three points playing badly than to play neat football and end up losing matches.

“We were the better team in the first half and we were duly rewarded with a goal. In the second half, our energy levels dropped and our players switched off. We defended too deeply and allowed them to have the ball, but we will work on it and come up with a better strategy,” said Budeli.

He added that his target was to guide the club to the highest possible position on the log, while securing promotion to the ABC Motsepe League remained the college’s long-term dream.

“We are in the top four and anything is possible. We are taking it one game at a time and we do not want to put the players under pressure. One win after the other will get us to where we want to be,” Budeli concluded.
