Amarok dust: Dieprivier 4×4 route

POLOKWANE – Clients and invited guests of VW Polokwane Commercial had a field day in March when they had the opportunity to drive over a planned off-road route of nearly 35km over a rugged Dieprivier terrain on the outskirts of this city.
To make this outing even more worthwhile, Johan Badenhorst, from the televised Voetspore adventure series was the celebrity guest for the event and lead from the front over this daunting route.
Review spoke to some of the participants who were able to gain some off-road driving experiences with the never-say-die Amarok.
“It was a wonderful day and the event was fantastic, as is the Amarok bakkie. The Amarok has some excellent off-road capabilities and on top of this, it is very comfortable and has excellent road manners. We drove behind the Voetspore-team and we truly enjoyed this outing,” André Bradbury said.
Charl Marais said he could only describe his experience as awesome. “It’s a fact that the Amarok is an unbelievable bakkie, whether for normal road conditions or off-road terrains. I have been driving 4×4 vehicles for a long time now and the Amarok – we drove the eight-speed automatic model – surprised me with its outstanding off-road capabilities. It drives like a car, it is more than just a bakkie. The Amarok has an 49° incline capability and at the Dieprivier outing the Amarok just proved to me it can handle such an incline with ease. It doesn’t feel you are driving off-road, that is how comfortable the Amarok is,” Marais said.
Nic Coetzee also participated and had this to say about the Amarok: “Volkswagen has a very good bakkie here with excellent capabilities, especially for off-road conditions, a magnificent bakkie. I drove the eight-speed automatic version. What I came to realise is that the Amarok does not stand back for any other four-wheel drive vehicle when it come to off-road capabilities. I’m am 4×4 off-road enthusiast myself, and my opinion is that the Amarok automatic version is especially suitable for inexperienced 4×4 off-road enthusiasts”.
