Fencing for the top spots
Excitement permeated the air on Saturday morning as fencers from Limpopo and Mpumalanga gathered at Tom Naudé Technical High School for the Limpopo Duel round two.
POLOKWANE – Excitement permeated the air on Saturday morning as fencers from Limpopo and Mpumalanga gathered at Tom Naudé Technical High School for the Limpopo Duel round two.
There were five clubs participating with a total of fencers. These clubs included Eresable Fencing Club from Mokopane, Raven Fencing Club from Polokwane, Firebirds Fencing Club from Polokwane, Musina Fencing Club from Musina and Mpumalanga Fencing Club.
The fencers fenced two weapons namely the Epee and Foil. The categories were u/11, Cadet ladies, Senior Mixed, Cadet Mixed and Cadet women.
The athletes fought for three minutes in a poolfight and then went on to the elimination rounds of nine minutes each where after the final rounds took place. Due to the larger number of fencers that attended the tournament, they required a four piste (competition mats). These were placed in the gym hall at the school as well as the school hall.

Foil u/11:
Gold: JF van der Merwe.
Silver: Devon Esterhuizen.
Epee u/11:
Gold: Jordan Ingram from Mpumalanga Fencing Club.
Silver: Salmon de Villiers from Raven Fencing Club.
Epee Cadet Ladies:
Gold: Moné McCabe from Raven Fencing Club.
Silver: Annerique van der Walt from Firebird Fencing Club.
Senior Mixed Foil:
Gold: Andrew Howitt from Eresable Fencing Club.
Silver: Jandré Nel from Firebirds Fencing Club.
Bronze: Jaycee Pinn from Firebirds Fencing Club.
Bronze: Chuene Sekwakwa from Firebirds Fencing Club.
Senior Mixed Epee:
