Firebirds return home with stack of medals
Ten fencers from Firebird Fencing Club in the city participated at the Junior National Fencing Championship in Bloemfontein on Saturday where they competed against some of the top fencers in the country.
POLOKWANE – Ten fencers from Firebird Fencing Club in the city participated at the Junior National Fencing Championship in Bloemfontein on Saturday where they competed against some of the top fencers in the country.
Firebird’s fencers returned home with a total of seven medals.
Medalists:
• Jamie Norval, Foil Minim (u/15) bronze medal.
• Moné McCabe, Cadet Épée bronze medal, Junior Foil silver medal and Cadet Foil gold medals.
• Charl Venter, Cadet Foil silver medal.
• Jana van der Walt, Junior Foil bronze medal and Cadet Foil silver medal.
The rankings from the championship will determined whether the fencers qualify to compete in the Commonwealth Games that will take place in Cape Townin July.
The group is currently training for the Inter Provincial Club rankings in July and the National Rankings Championship that will take place in Port Elizabeth in August.
