POLOKWANE – The Moletlane Texas softball club proved to be the best after defending its championship title during the Spikes Softball Tournament that was held at Mahwelereng stadium in Waterberg on Sunday.
Texas defeated four softball teams to retain its title. The team battled against TUT softball team and won the match 11-0, they defeated the Scorpion 10-0, Atteridgeville Giants 11-3 and played the final game against the Royals.
According to Thapelo Seshoka, Texas head coach, the game between them and the Royals was tough. The game between the two rivals saw Texas claiming the game with a score of 6-1.
“We played a beautiful game and all the players were committed and had one objective which was retaining the title. We won the trophy last year and now we won it again for the second time in a raw,” Seshoka said. He added that there was a lot of talent in the province and urged softball players to take the sport serious.
The tournament was categorised into two streams, being stream A and B. Texas played in stream B and won all the games to proceed to the finals.
The tournament accommodated eight men’s softball teams and six women’s softball teams. Seshoka added that the Spikes Softball Tournament was an annual event that aimed to keeping the sport of softball strong in the province.
“We will start preparing for the Iquembu and Heroes softball tournaments, which are expected to be played somewhere in December. We are the champions of Heroes Softball Tournament and we are looking forward to defend our title and emerge as the champions.”
Seshoka further urged young people to take part in sports to live a healthy lifestyle and stay out of trouble.
