Limpopo Impalas defeat defending champs

POLOKWANE – Limpopo Impalas cricket team bounced back after their defeat against North West to beat defending champions Mpumalanga by 91 runs last Saturday.
Playing at Capricorn High School, the Impalas got off to a good start by posting 58 runs before losing their first wicket. Three wickets fell before Petrie de Kock knocked a valiant 106 off 107 balls, hitting 13 fours and two sixes. His century was backed by a quick fire 71 off 66 balls by Ruan Willemse on the other end of the crease with nine fours and one six.
Needing 311 runs to win, Mpumalanga was sent in to bat but their opening batsman fell to an lbw by Ruan Willemse in the second over.
Limpopo kept the pressure on Mpumalanga’s batsmen through their bowling but endured a few misfields as catches were dropped.
Wickets kept falling, leaving Mpumalanga at 212-8 at one stage, only needing 93 runs to win. They fell short thanks to a three-wicket haul by centurion Petrie de Kock.
The Impalas will play its next game against Gauteng in Vanderbijlpark on 5 December.
