Golfers tee off for CANSA

The aim of the tournament is to use golf as a tool to help generate money for Cansa.

POLOKWANE – It was the final tee-off in the regional finals of the annual Sanlam Cancer Golf Challenge at the Drakensig Golf Club in Hoedspruit on Saturday 26 August.

Thus far in 2017, with not all the money being calculated yet, an impressive R3,3 million has been raised.

The Limpopo Golf Union, which include various golf clubs in Limpopo, have raised close to R200 000, with the top clubs being Mogol Golf Club with more than R60 000 and Koro Creek Bushveld Golf Estate with more than R25 000. This is truly the easiest way the raise money, while enjoying a round of golf at the same time.

The winners at every club represented their club at the regional finals and the winners will represent their province at the national finals at Sun City.

Teeing-off first in a very chilly morning was the ladies and the competition was tough. The best represented club at this year’s regional finals was Thabazimbi Golf Club who traveled close to 8 hours to tee-off.

The winners in the ladies’ divisions were:

• A-Division H/Cap 0 – 16 Desiree Earle, Polokwane Golf Club

• B-Division H/Cap 17 – 24 Amanda Rossow, Drakensig Golf Club

• C-Division H/Cap 25 – 36 Jeane Erasmus, Thabazimbi Golf Club

The winners in the men’s divisions were:

• A-Division H/Cap 0 – 9 Aaron Segwapa, Polokwane Golf Club

• B-Division H/Cap 10 – 18 Wim Barnard, Chrome Golf Club

• C-Division H/Cap 19 – 30 Tommy Marais, Hans Merensky Golf Estate

“On behalf on Cansa and the Limpopo Golf Union we thank all the golfers who participated in the final at Drakensig Golf Club. We raised another R7 000,” Jean Sadie, Limpopo Golf Union Operations Manager said.

The winners will tee-off in the finals at Sun City from 8-10 October. We wish them and know they will fly Limpopo’s flag high.
