Chiefs beat Baroka FC 2-1

Kaizer Chiefs continued to pave their way to the top of the log by beating Baroka FC 2-1 in their Absa Premier League match at Peter Mokaba Sports Complex on Sunday.

LIMPOPO – Baroka took the game to their opponents from the first whistle, with their strikers, Robin Ngalande and Talent Chawapihwa, pressing hard in search of an early goal.

It took them 31 minutes to open their account.

Their bulldozer-striker, Lucky Nguzana, hooked in the ball, following a heartbreaking scramble within the box. Chiefs’ keeper, Itumeleng Khune, fumbled the ball, following Richardt Matloga’s attempt but Chiefs did not lose hope despite conceding a goal.

They continued to play like a team with their midfielders dishing out some telling passes to the strikers.

They came close to scoring in the 44th minute when Gustavo Paez shot wide from inside the box after beating two defenders in a row. The score was still 1-0 in favour of Baroka when the referee blew the half-time whistle.

It was evident from the start of the second half that Fire Chief were going to collect full points as the Baroka players were outclassed in all departments and it took Chiefs only minutes in the second half to score an equaliser.

Their all-rounder, Ryan Moon, was on target following a neat pass from Joseph Molangoane.

Leonardo Castro Malangoane was red-carded for rough play in the 67th minute.

Baroka introduced Mpho Kgashwane, Gift Mutupa and Letladi Madubanya for Richardt Matloga, Goodman Mosele and Robin Ngalande.

Chiefs responded by introducing Siphelele Ntshangase and Leonardo Castro for Ryan Moo and Gustavo Paez.

Leonardo Castro of Chiefs scored the team’s second goal following a square pass from Siphelele Ntshangase.
