Tournament to be held in memory of young soccer star’s life

In memory of the late u/15 soccer player Mashilo Mohlabeng, a two-day memorial tournament will be held at the Luthuli 9L Sportsground on Saturday, 7 April and Sunday, 8 April.

POLOKWANE – Mohlabeng, who played for the u/15 Luthuli 9L United Brothers Development, passed away in 2017.

According to the Memorial u/15 Top Eight Tournament Chief Operational Officer Joel Mphashe, the tournament will not only serve as a way to celebrate the life of the young star, but is also meant to bring all the young stars in the soccer industry together. Although the arrangements for the tournament are well underway, there are still instances in which assistance is required.

“The tournament is in need of money. We are appealing to the community at large to donate anything or any capital they can so that we will be able to smoothly run the tournament. Through this we want to encourage our young players to continue training and to also take soccer seriously, rather than getting involved with substances abuse,” he explained.

The team is currently in need of a sponsorship for the medals, water and trophies to be handed out during the tournament.

“The tournament will provide a social interaction forum for the parents of the respective players who are also invited to the tournament. It will also provide an opportunity for the coaches to interact with their players and to do a lot of teaching between matches. This will be a wonderful platform to scout and to nurture talent at an early age,” he added.
