13th Baobab Classic brings the best to the fairway

The Polokwane Golf Club was a hub of activity last Thursday to Saturday, as the best golfers took to the fairway to show off their golfing prowess in the recent 13th Baobab Classic tournament.

POLOKWANE – The 13th Baobab Classic is one of the biggest annual events on the club’s golfing calendar and sees golfers from across Limpopo and other provinces take to the greens in a four-ball alliance sponsored by BB Mazda Polokwane, a betterball competition sponsored by Ricoh as well as an individual stableford match.

Thursday’s results:

• Barend Jacobs – longest drive on hole five.

• Otto Muller – longest drive on hole 17.

• Lennie Olley – closest to the pin on hole four.

• Neil Rathman – closest to the pin on hole eight.

• Craig Hawken – closest to the pin on hole 11.

• Riaan Nel – closest to the pin on hole 16.

Winners:

1. Jacques de Jager, Carel de Jager, Johan Peyper and Carel de Jager (Sr) with 91 points.

2. Edwin Mackays, Francois Hartlief, Joe Mackays and Melvin Stevens with 91 points.

3. Barry du Toit, Martin van Ghent, Le Roux de Beer and Jacques van Vuuren with 89 points.

Friday’s results:

• Liano Vivers – longest drive on hole two.

• Danie van der Walt – longest drive on hole 12.

• Fred Hurter – closest to the pin on hole eight.

• Andrew Galloway – closest to the pin on hole 11.

Winners:

1. Edwin Mackays and Francois Hartlief with 51 points.

2. Andrew Galloway and Craig Rosendorff with 49 points.

3. Adam Milanzi and Mpho Makhado with 49 points.

4. Joe Mackays and Melvin Stevens with 48 points.

5. Glen Wynne and Jannie Bronkhorst with 48 points.

Saturday’s results:

• Adam Milanzi – longest drive on hole seven.

• Glen Wynne – longest drive on hole 10.

• Julian Golding – closest to the pin on hole four.

• Jannie Bronkhorst – closest to the pin on hole 16.

Winners:

1. Raymond Pratt with 43 points.

2. Benhardt Steyn (Jr) 42 points.

3. Christo Saaiman with 42 points.

4. Melvin Stevens with 42 points.

5. Edwin Mackays with 41 points.

Edwin Mackays was announced as the overall individual winner.

Team winners:

1. Edwin Mackays, Joe Mackays, Francois Hartlief and Melvin Stevens with a score of 124,4.

2. Thys de Kock, Dwayne Viljoen, Barend Jacobs and Theo Allison with a score of 117,6.

3. Neil Rathman, Niko Koster, Jannie Bronkhorst and Glen Wynne with a score of 117,2.
