POLOKWANE – The Pietersburg Amateur Wrestling Club is up and running again after being quiet for some time. The club took part in its first competition in a while during the first week of May when they were invited to take part in an invitational meeting in Brakpan, Gauteng. One of the organisers of the club, Rinette le Grange, told Review the club is currently looking for new wrestlers from as young as four years old to join them and help to rebuild it to its former glory.

“We have not been able to take part in competitions until now because our team was just too young. We are now all set to take part in different age groups and develop the sport to its full potential in the city,” she said. The club is situated in Suid Street and the wrestlers practice at the club every Monday and Wednesday between 17:30 and 19:00. The club offers wrestlers a full training programme under the watch and management of qualified wrestling coaches.
Even with being out of competitions for a long time the club made a great impression at the Brakpan competition when they brought home no fewer than six medals for the eight wrestlers who competed.
“We want to see wrestling in Polokwane and Limpopo take its rightful place in the sporting world and we invite all interested people to come and join us weekdays. Alternatively, anyone is welcome to give us a call for more information or to join. The club is open for both boys and girls and we welcome parents to watch during practice to cheer on the wrestlers as they learn and better their skills,” she said.
