Local athletes shine at Comrades

Athletes from all clubs in the city ascended on KwaZulu-Natal to compete in this year's Ultimate Human Race.

POLOKWANE – For some it was their first time taking on the Comrades Marathon while others did their back-to-back races this year to add to their medal collection. Athletes from three clubs in the city took on the gruelling race and came home with outstanding results.

Mzansi Athletics Club:

• Dimakatso Mafona finished in a time of 8:42:50.

• Matome Rasekgala finished in a time of 8:50:39.

• Naledzani Machimna finished in a time of 10:14:32.

• Ndivhumwo Memamilwe finished in a time of 10:14:32.

Polokwane Athletics Club:

• Andries Malele finished in a time of 6:56:16.

• Pelly Lamola finished in a time of 6:23:10.

• Tedius Forotiya finished in a time of 7:09:43.

• Cedric Motimele finished in a time of 7:17:19.

PAC boasts with 100 athletes finishing the Comrades Marathon under 12 hours.

They brought home six silver medals and 16 Bill Rowan medals from this year’s marathon.

Pietersburg Road Runners:

• Peter Muthubi was the 57th man. He finished in a time of 6:25:00.

• Timothy Munzhelele was the 96th man. He finished in a time of 6:40:13.

• Calvin Malatji was the 99th man. He finished in a time of 6:41:08.

• Martenique Potgieter was the 32nd woman. She finished in a time of 7:41:35.

The clubs told Review the experience was something words cannot describe and added they look forward to preparing for next year’s marathon to bring home even more medals.
