Limpopo badminton team excel at SA Woodroffe Cup
All team members performed well as a team as well as on an individual level. Here are their successes.
POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Badminton team gave an overall impressive performance at the SA Woodroffe Cup 2019 which was held in Pretoria from 19 to 25 October.
All team members performed well as a team as well as on an individual level. Here are their successes.
In the team event, members Japie van Heerden (captain), Floris van Wyk, Navees Muhammed, Chris Loretz, Zara Varghese, Hannelize van der Westhuizen, Charmane de Waal (Manager) and Elsabe Wilson took gold.
Navees and Zara, who are both members of Capricorn Badminton Club, were each ranked number one in their division. Van Heerden (Makhado) was ranked number two and Van der Westhuizen (Phalaborwa) ranked five. De Waal (Makhado) received the award for best manager.
In the open tournament Navees and his partner, Qadar Nawaz (Capricorn Club), reached the quarterfinals in the men’s doubles. Navees also won the men singles in the consolation finals.
Zara together with her partner, Olga Joubert (Capricorn Club), won the women’s doubles consolation and Olga was ranked number two in the women’s division. Olga reached the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles with her partner, Danie Joubert (Capricorn Club) who was ranked number three.
