Sekhukhune soccer lovers ‘united’ with their new team
The Chairperson of of Sekhukhune United, Simon Malatjie says the team will focus on developing young players in the province.
LIMPOPO – Soccer lovers in the Vhembe district have a new team to support, with the addition of Sekhukhune United. The club was recently launched and according to their Chairperson, Simon Malatjie, they will reach the highest level of football in the country within a reasonable period.
The team has hired well-travelled Johnny Ferreira as their head coach, and Malatjie said the team will focus on developing young players.
He said Limpopo has a lot of talent and he wanted to produce more players who could play at an elite level.
Malatjie said he is confident that the people of Limpopo would rally behind his team as they aim for top honours.
The team will play their home matches at the Louis Trichardt Show Grounds, while the Peter Mokaba Stadium and Makhulong Stadium will be their practice grounds.
United have a lot of experience in their squad with the likes of former Ajax Cape Town and Baroka FC striker, Prince Nxumalo, as well as PSL veterans; Jabu Maluleke and Tapuwa Kapini, Ntokozo Mtsweni, McClive Phiri, Thabang Mokoena, Ayanda Dlamini, Yusuf Maart and Siyabulela Shai.
The Limpopo Sport MEC, Thandi Moraka, said the local government was happy about the teams’ addition and wished them well in their endeavours.
