Former Bafana Bafana coach joins Limpopo outfit

Former Bafana Bafana and Lesotho national soccer coach, Thabo Senong has joined Limpopo Premier soccer club, Sekhukhune United as the new assistant coach to MacDonald Makhubedu.

The 40-year-old mentor is no stranger to the local scene having already served as a head coach of the u/20 South Africa team.

Senong is the 2016 recipient of Department of Sport, Arts and Culture’s Coach of the Year Award. “With more than 17 years of coaching experience, his achievements as u/20 head coach include winning back-to-back 2017 and 2018 Cosafa Cup and qualifying for the 2017 and 2019 u/20 Fifa World Cup, working as an assistant coach for South Africa u/17 national team, South Africa u/23 national team and Bafana Bafana.

“He also perfected his skills through the guidance and leadership from the likes of Augusto Palacios, Rudolph Krol, Patrick Viera, Pitso Mosimane, Shakes Mashaba and Stuart Baxter. “I am honoured to be part of the Sekhukhune United Football Club project, the club suits my values and beliefs as a person,” Senong said.

Chairman of the club, Simon Malatji was quoted: “I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Senong to Babina Noko. We know his work ethic and believe he will work well with the technical team, while we are trying to rebuild and ensure we have a formidable side for the new season,” Malatji said.
