Polokwane Athletic Club urges runners to continue training

Chairman of Polokwane Athletic Club, Corrie Calitz, is encouraging all their athletes to continue training, in order to stay fit and healthy ahead of their planned events.

Calitz said athletes should be hopeful and positive despite the threat posed by Covid-19 on sporting codes.

“We have planned a marathon for September and we have invited various members of athletic clubs in the city. We are hoping that things will be better by then. All the athletes are itching to get on the roads and do what they love.”

He also mentioned that they were hoping to stage another big event also in September, but they are struggling to get sponsors. “It is not easy to get sponsors for events these days, because sponsors want numbers and it is difficult to get numbers because of the Covid-19 restrictions.”

Calitz thanked all the athletes who took part in the Mall of the North virtual race from 31 May to 6 June. “We had 157 runners. It was not what we were expecting, but we are grateful to the athletes who participated in the event.”
