ANC hosts Birthday Run for women
The cool breeze and lack of sun did not deter runners who took part in the ANC Ike Maphotho Branch's Women's Month Birthday Run.
POLOKWANE – The run, which was held at Oosskool last Saturday, was held for women who celebrate their birthdays in the month of August.
Women and men came out in their numbers to start running from as early as 05:00. They had the opportunity to take part in various distances, from a 5km to a 25km run.
Various prominent individuals such as former Polokwane mayor and Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Thembi Nkadimeng, Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba, Education MEC Polly Boshielo, Public Works MEC Dickson Masemola as well as Capricorn District Mayor John Mpe, attended the run.
The run ended at 08:30 and participants then gathered at the park next to the school, to cool off with various refreshments and to eat some healthy snacks.
Virgin Active Thornhill exercise instructor Peter Lekolwane coordinated a fun session of aerobics for all to join in.
After the aerobics session, MECs addressed the crowd on the importance of the day and Ramathuba announced that a vaccination site was available at the school.
“We are not forcing anyone to vaccinate but I would like to advise and urge you to vaccinate so that the virus doesn’t kick you down,” she added.
A session about gender-based violence was also held with a table beautifully set up with flowers and burning candles which were then distributed to all the guest of honours.
Everyone prayed for the women who are abused physically and emotionally but are not able to speak out.
