Limpopo tennis players ace test against Gauteng

Myriads of local tennis players took on their counterparts from Gauteng at the Limpopo ProKennex tennis tournament.

POLOKWANE – The tournament, which was held at the Polokwane tennis court on August 27, saw 128 individual tennis players from various age categories exchange pin-point serves, aces and volleys on the courts.

Head of junior tennis in Limpopo, Ernest Faver said the event gave local tennis players an opportunity to test their skills.

“We had a lot of individual players who enjoyed playing against each other. It was a good event and the players had fun.”

Some of the winners included Sarel van Rooyen from Limpopo who beat Tyrone Mguni 6-2, 6-1 in the men’s singles final. Simbarashe Mhandu from Limpopo trashed fellow provincial player Edwin Edwin to win the men’s singles gold final.

The men’s doubles final was won by the Gauteng Central team, Tshepang Chaane and Tyrone Mnguni. The duo beat Frikkie Eloff and Van Rooyen.

The girls’ u/14 singles final was won by Zoe Venter from Limpopo who defeated Diana Hendrick from Gauteng Central 6-0, 6-2. Wian du Plessis from Limpopo won the boys’ u/12 singles finals after he beat Joshua Smit from Gauteng North 6-3, 6-0.

Lesego Morokane from Limpopo emerged as the winner of the girls’ u/12 singles final with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Tatum Macnaughton from Gauteng East.
