Red Ants claim national masters softball win
Limpopo Softball Association's masters softball team, affectionately known as Red Ants, were crowned the champions of the national masters softball tournament.
LIMPOPO – The tournament was held at the Crafford Softball Stadium in Pretoria on September 25.
Red Ants defeated Jumpers Softball Club from Gauteng 51-32 in the final to walk away with gold medals and a trophy.
On their way to the final they eliminated Flames, Diphala, the Free State and the Tshwane University of Technology masters softball clubs.
Limpopo Softball Association executive member Benny Boshomane said the masters’ victory will give hope to development players in the association.
“Most of the players in the team no longer play regularly. Some are coaches in our development teams. They have shown that age does not supersede talent and hard work. They are the epitome of loyalty, commitment and hard work. We want our young players to emulate them and work hard at all times,” Boshomane said.
The team was made up by legendary local softball players Peter Sekhaolelo, Isaih Lebolo, Nakedi Raphalo, Esrom Manamela, Koloi Kekana, Norman Mpofu and Richard Pila.
