Netball, soccer tourney to go ahead on Boxing Day

Four netball and six soccer teams will participate at the 6th Village Shut-Down tournament

LIMPOPO – The organisers of the annual Village Shut-Down tournament confirmed that the tournament will be held on December 26.

This will be the sixth tournament held and there will be four netball and six soccer teams that will participate.

All the sporting festivities will take place at Mudimeli and there will also be a 10km fun walk.

The Mupo Washu Group sponsors the tournament and according to the manager of the group, Rudzani Radebe, sport has the power to create a good climate between business and people.

“This is the company’s way of making sure we touch the lives of those in the Mudimeli area through sport.”

He added that their sponsorship would increase from one season to the next, depending on the financial position of the business.

He also stated that sponsorships played a vital role in sports development, especially in rural areas.

Goldrick Radamba, the coordinator of the tournament, stated that identifying future talent at grassroots level is important. He applauded the sponsors for helping to identify the talent of the region’s youth and added that the youth should be proud of their talent.

The winners will go home with a new soccer kit, gold medals, a floating trophy and R5 000. The netball winners will pocket R2 000, a ball, a floating trophy and gold medals.

The fun walk will start at 05:00.

The participating soccer teams are Bomo FC, Bombers FC, Vhamami FC, Rirothe FC, Parma FC and Sokotenda FC. The netball teams are Vhamami Ladies, Rirothe Ladies, Bombers Ladies and Bomo Ladies.

The organisers thank all sponsors involved, which include Mupo Washu Group, Smart Toilet and Trailer Rentals, WTP Cleaning services, Vombe Consulting and Caps M Trading.
