Badminton players gear up for nationals with Limpopo Open
A total of 69 players from various clubs in the country played 120 matches at the Capricorn Badminton Club's courts.
POLOKWANE – Shuttlecocks travelled through the air at high speeds during the Limpopo Open Series 2022 badminton competition.
The competition was recently hosted by the Limpopo Badminton Association and a total of 69 players from various clubs in the country played 120 matches at the Capricorn Badminton Club’s courts.
They battled for supremacy in both men’s and women’s singles and doubles events.
Local players Olga Joubert and Zara Varghese defeated Esther Roy and Corinne Meyer to win the women’s doubles event.
The mixed doubles event was won by Benjamin de Waal and Zara Varghese who represented Limpopo.

Limpopo Badminton player representative Zara Joy Varghese said the event formed part of their preparations for the national badminton tournament that is scheduled for September 16 and 17 in Polokwane.
“The Limpopo Open was a good competition which was enjoyed by players from all over the province and even as far as the Free State. We are ready and we have a good team who will compete at the national event.”
