This was again iterated by Vhembe Mayor Dowelani Nenguda as he was addressing elderly people during the Golden Games held at Louis Trichardt High School last Wednesday.

Teams who participated in the district games are from all four local municipalities namely Musina, Louis Trichardt, Thulamela and Collins Chabane.

Elderly citizens above 60 years of age participated in soccer, athletics, duck walk, dress-up, goal shooting, pegging washing pegs, passing the ball, ring the stick and several other activities.

Nenguda addressed the senior athletes during the district Golden Games.

“Our older persons improve their health and longevity and use the opportunity to interact with older people of all cultural groups. We call upon young people to follow in their footsteps and emulate seniors in making sure we stay healthy and drug-free,” said Nenguda. The games served to create an awareness of the abilities and capabilities of older persons in recreational activities and sport.

One of the participants, Isaac Mashavha (65) of Itsani village in Thulamela won the 400m every year since he started participating in the games a long time ago, said it has definitely been in favour of his health overall.
